Join us virtually or in-person at Duke North Pavilion, 2400 Pratt Street, Lower Level Conference Room 0400 as Damon Tweedy, MD, professor of psychiatry & behavioral sciences and physician at the Durham VA Health Care System, shares stories and insights from his new book, "Facing the Unseen: The Struggle to Center Mental Health in Medicine," in a conversation with Julie Penzner, MD, vice chair for education in psychiatry & behavioral sciences.
In the book, to be published on April 9, Tweedy guides us through his days working in various clinical settings as he meets people from all walks of life who are grappling with physical and psychological illnesses. He argues for a more comprehensive and integrated approach, where people with mental illness have a health care system that places their full well-being front and center.
Tweedy's first book, "Black Man in a White Coat" (2015) was a New York Times bestseller, selected by TIME magazine as one of the Top 10 non-fiction books of that year. He has also published articles about race, medicine, and mental health in medical journals and media outlets such as The New York Times and The Washington Post.
