Employee Spotlight: Elias Peters

Originally from the scenic town of Black Mountain in Western North Carolina, Elias Peters brings a thoughtful and curious spirit to his work at the Duke Center for Autism and Brain Development. Elias earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UNC-Chapel Hill, with minors in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science. After college, he worked in scientific consulting for clinical trials, reviewing neurocognitive assessments. Though the work was meaningful, Elias felt drawn to academic research and made the leap—traveling, editing academic manuscripts, and eventually finding his way to Duke.

Since joining the center, Elias has found joy in working directly with children and families, and especially values offering families clinical evaluations. He values the mentorship and learning opportunities that come with his role and is especially passionate about research projects and attending conferences. Elias is currently exploring future paths in neuroscience and clinical psychology, with hopes of building a long-term career in research. Elias is an active member of the Education, Work Relations, and Neurodiversity subcommittees of the Autism Center’s working group that is dedicated to efforts that promote inclusion and awareness across the center.

Outside of work, Elias is a sports enthusiast who enjoys soccer, tennis, pickleball, and Spikeball. He’s also developed a unique hobby—fossil hunting! On weekends, you might find him “toothin’,” searching for shark teeth and other treasures. We’re so lucky to have Elias on our team. His curiosity, dedication, and positive energy make him a valued colleague and a bright presence at the center. Be sure to say hello and ask him about his latest fossil find!
